iConnect Lab launches to introduce Green Screen Day, a new initiative that encourages children to transform their digital devices into tools for creativity, storytelling, and self-expression. Instead of using screens passively, Green Screen Day invites young minds to engage with technology in imaginative and meaningful ways. Dr. Flavia Ferreira Santos, founder of iConnect Lab, shares the vision behind the initiative:
“Green Screen Day is an initiative designed to empower children to reconnect with nature and their own creativity. By encouraging mindful disconnection from the online world and transforming digital devices into tools for creative expression, the project promotes storytelling, imaginative play, and outdoor exploration all with nature in mind.”
Helping Parents Find Balance
The initiative also encourages parents to reflect on the challenges of managing screen time at home. It promotes a shift from simply consuming content to actively creating it with nature in mind. Green Screen Day is grounded in Ecomedia studies, which examine the intersection of media, the environment, and our relationship with technology. The project aims to reframe digital habits and help children develop a more balanced, mindful connection with technology.
How to Get Involved
Primary schools are invited to take part in Green Screen Day. Participating schools will receive access to resources, activity ideas, and a toolkit to help introduce students to creative, reflective uses of technology.
