iConnect Lab Launches the Green Screen Day Campaign

iConnect Lab is proud to launch the Green Screen Day campaign. This initiative encourages children to transform their devices into a creative tool inspired by nature. The goal is to reduce screen time and distractions while engaging children in imaginative activities.

With children heading back to school, it’s the perfect time to establish new routines that prioritize their well-being. Green Screen Day offers a timely opportunity to reset and focus on creativity, children’s health, and their connection with nature. By reducing screen time, repurposing smartphones and digital devices, and encouraging outdoor activities, the campaign aims to help children develop a stronger bond with the environment, improve their relationship with technology, and spark their creativity.

Why Green Screen Day?

In today’s digital age, children are spending more hours a day on screens, with potentially serious implications for their physical and mental health. Issues such as poor sleep, obesity, and reduced attention spans have been linked to excessive screen time, making it crucial to find a balance.

This latest report by Common Sense Media examines the screen time habits of young children, ages 0 to 8, and how media usage has changed post-pandemic. The study found that screen time among this age group has increased significantly, with children spending an average of 5 hours a day on screens.

Dr. Flavia Ferreira Santos, founding director of iConnect Lab, underscores the significance of this initiative: “Our goal is to give children the opportunity to transform digital screens into tools of creativity, reducing screen time and entertainment consumption from digital devices. In an era filled with digital distractions, it’s crucial that we guide them toward healthier, more balanced lifestyles that spark their imagination and strengthen their connection with nature.” said Dr. Santos.

Dr. Flavia Ferreira Santos continues, “Another crucial aspect of the campaign is to consistently raise awareness among parents about screen time and the content their children are exposed to online. We provide resources to help parents set screen time limits, and understand the content being consumed.”
